Welcome to the League of Reviews

Hail, fair adventurer, welcome to the League of Reviews!

OK, that's enough roleplaying...

My name is Steve, and I am a comic book fan. My fascination started at the age of 11, when on a holiday in America, I would become very distracted in branches on 7-11 gazing at the spinners and trying to work out which comics were which. Althought it wasn't easy to get comics in the UK, especially in Gloucester in the mid-90s, I was able to get my hands on the occasional graphic novel from the library. At the ripe old age of 16, I picked up The Return of Superman and Knightfall volumes 1 and 2 from WH Smith in a clearance (I think I paid £5 for the lot, which is still a bloody good deal today).

When I moved to London to start my degree, I stumbled across Comics Showcase in Tottenham Court Road, where I bought my first ever comic - Daredevil Volume 2 #40. I stuck mainly with Comics Showcase for the next couple of years (with a few months spent at Forbidden Planet), as my pull list grew and grew, until the store was forced to close. I moved up the road (and later back down again) as a patron of Orbital Comics, with my pull list swelling to nearly 40 titles a month. This has now shrunk to manageable levels, to the great delight of the money that I appear not to have that much of.

So, what will this blog be? Well, I'm going to review comics as they come out, normally about a week or so after their release to give me time to read, reread, write and rewrite. I'll occasionally dip into my archives, longboxes, collected editions, and digitally stored comics to talk about anything that caught my eye or I had a hankering to reread.

Oh, and despite the title, there is no league - it's just me and the voices in my head. Those voices speak in little yellow boxes. And a prize if anyone gets that reference!
